West Brom: Small Fish Thriving in a Big Pool

I think West Brom have astounded other teams, critics, and even their own fans by the start they have had to the season. After six matches in the Premier League they sit at the high perch of sixth place with 10 points. They are above the likes of Tottenham, Liverpool and Everton.

When they were hammered 6-0 on the opening day by Chelsea, I’m sure many people thought it would be a case of Straight Up and Straight back Down to the Championship. But they followed that defeat with good wins against two tricky teams in Sunderland and Birmingham, and also managed a credible 1-1 draw against Spurs. Then came the absolute dismantling of Arsenal at the Emirates, a 3 – 2 victory, but it was the performance which deserved the most credit: they completely outplayed their more illustrious opponents.

And add to that their shock 2-1 win over Manchester City in the Carling Cup and you have a recipe for a near-perfect start to the season.

West Brom have some testing fixtures in October including Bolton, Manchester United and Fulham, and I for one would love to see them continue their good run and surprise many more football-lovers.
