When they were hammered 6-0 on the opening day by Chelsea, I’m sure many people thought it would be a case of Straight Up and Straight back Down to the Championship. But they followed that defeat with good wins against two tricky teams in Sunderland and Birmingham, and also managed a credible 1-1 draw against Spurs. Then came the absolute dismantling of Arsenal at the Emirates, a 3 – 2 victory, but it was the performance which deserved the most credit: they completely outplayed their more illustrious opponents.
And add to that their shock 2-1 win over Manchester City in the Carling Cup and you have a recipe for a near-perfect start to the season.
West Brom have some testing fixtures in October including Bolton, Manchester United and Fulham, and I for one would love to see them continue their good run and surprise many more football-lovers.
