With priority being placed on Sunday’s game against Blackburn Rovers, Liverpool chose to rest some senior players and sent a weakened team to Italy to take on Napoli in the Europa Cup. There were a few decent performances, and overall the Reds played well enough to earn a point in a nil-nil draw. Jay Spearing stood out for me, and he performed a lot better than the efforts I’ve seen from Lucas, Meireles and Poulsen lately, and I really hope he features at some time against Blackburn. Also the team looked much more threatening with a 4-4-2 with new-boy Jonjo Shelvey partnering Ngog up front. I wish Liverpool would adopt this formation more often and do away with the two holding midfielders. I think Babel, and not Ngog, should play alongside Torres, with Cole Gerrard, Raul and Jovanovic across the middle.
