It's a corner, Ref!

I always think it’s funny how players take a shot at goal, they miss by a mile, and then appeal for the corner.


As if the only way the ball could have ended up in row Z of the stands was if it took the slightest deflection from the 'keeper’s fingertips.

I guess it just comes down to ego; professional footballers can’t let the supporters think that they might have had a crap shot. So if the player appeals vociferously then it might convince the fans that the ball did take deflection, and it wasn’t such a bad strike after all.
