It is the exact day 21 years ago that Liverpool last won the Top Division Title. It was also the anniversary of Kenny Dalglish's last game with the Reds. It was also Jamie Carragher's 665th appearance for the team. That moves him into equal 2nd spot, level with Ray Clemence and Emlyn Hughes, in all time appearances for the Merseyside club.
And it was the day that Liverpool beat Newcastle United 3-0 to keep their European ambitions alive.
In the opening ten minutes Maxi scored a deflected goal after some good work down the right by young John Flanagan which resulted in a decent cross into the box.
Luis Suarez again had a good game, and terrorised the Newcastle defence all morning. One of his runs into the box resulted in him being brought down for a penalty which Dirk Kuyt coolly converted to keep up his 100% record from the spot.
And later the two combined again; this time Kuyt providing the perfect touch for Suarez to run onto and score the Reds' third of the afternoon.
After Tottenham Hotspurs' controversial loss to Chelsea, Liverpool's win propelled them over Spurs and into 5th spot on goal difference. So the race for the final European spot looks like it'll be just as hotly contested as the fight to become Premier League Champions.
