Sammy Lee

Sammy Lee has left his position as the assistant manager of Liverpool Football club "by mutual consent". Lee played the supporting role to Kenny Dalglish who had recently brought in Steve Clarke to also assist him.

I’ve always liked Lee and when Rafa Benitez was ruining Liverpool, I felt Benitez should’ve been sacked and Sammy Lee be given the temporary role of managing Liverpool .

Lee first made his playing debut for Liverpool on 8 April 1978 against Leicester City where he scored in a 3–2 victory.

Lee became a regular in the Reds’ team from 1980 onwards and received a good reputation as a strong midfielder with excellent passing and shooting skills. He eventually left Liverpool in 1986 to join Queens Park Rangers. In total he played 295 games for Liverpool scoring 19 goals. He was also capped by England 14 times.

In 1993 Graeme Souness was the first manager to bring in Sammy Lee in a coaching position at Liverpool. Following Souness’ exit both subsequent managers Roy Evans and GĂ©rard Houllier kept him on the coaching staff, before Lee left to help with the England setup.

In 2008 he again returned to Liverpool, this time as assistant manager to Rafael Benitez.

Kevin Keen has been brought in to assist with the first team coaching.
