Jordan Henderson Not Quite the Star. Yet.

(Related Post: Were Jordan Henderson's poor performances the main reason Kenny Dalglish was sacked from Liverpool FC?)

Kenny Dalglish and Co at Liverpool FC spent heavily in the transfer window, spending over 100 million pounds. One of signings which caused a lot of excitement at Merseyside was that of Jordan Henderson, a 21 year-old up-and-coming star from Sunderland.  The Reds had to fork out 16 million for the youngster, a heavily inflated price probably mainly due to the fact that he’s English. That’s a big price tag, and no doubt heaped extra pressure on the starlet.

In his opening six games for Liverpool, Henderson hasn’t quite looked to be the complete player he was made out to be. He scored a cracker of a goal against Bolton Wanderers, but not really much else. His passing in particular has been below par. Ged McNamee, Sunderland's Academy manager, has said he could one day emulate Steven Gerrard, but anyone would agree he has along way to go before joining the quality ranks of Stevie G.

Now this post isn’t one to knock Jordan Henderson. I think everyone can see that he has massive potential, and could possibly be an England regular for many years. But he’s not there yet, and I don’t believe he should be an automatic starter for the Reds. I think a couple reserve games, and then some substitute appearances for the first team would be a better way to integrate him into life at a top football club.
