The Reds created many chances and came close a few times including an Andy Carroll effort which struck the bar. They have now hit the bar ten times so far this season, more than any other team in the league.
The majority of their attacks were initiated by their new left-winger, Stewart Downing. For me, Downing is one of the sweetest strikers of the ball, as well as a deadly crosser. In the Liverpool camp perhaps only skipper Steven Gerrard betters him for power and accuracy on the long-range shot.He has been rewarded for his performances with a call-up to the England team to play in their next two friendlies against Spain and Sweden
I really feel Downing deserves a goal after his many impressive displays, and I believe it’s only a matter time before he breaks his duck and gets that debut goal for his new team.
As impressive as Downing has been, I still think he lacks the end product and hopefully Kenny will mould him into the kind of player that Liverpool will be proud of. I think the jury's also still out on Carroll and the 35mil is beginning to weigh down on him a bit. Kenny has the pedigree to bring the best out of them but will it be this season?
ReplyDeleteDowning's confidence has definitely been low in the last few games. His finishing has dropped below par. He is capable of striking the ball so sweetly, but lately he seems to battling to control his shots.
ReplyDeleteI reckon he just needs a few good games to get the confidence back up. I'm sure he will helped by Gerrard returning from injury and playing next to him in midfield.
